The Ulmisried is located in the immediate vicinity of the University of Constance (see “Google maps” below) and was artificially created. A former brook was closed off by iron panels, creating a 500 m long pond with a water depth of about 1 m. The Ulmisried is completely surrounded by forest. The area is not farmed and is left in its natural state. Many fallen trees lying in the water characterize the appearance. Because of the shallow water depth, the Ulmisried almost dried up in the drought year 2018 (s. images below).
