The pond in St. Ulrich in Austria is located in the north of the village behind a parking lot. It has an area of about 5 x 10 m and is highly eutrophic. In summer, it is partially covered by a stable population of the red water lily (Nymphaea rubra). On its southern side, about 10 m away, runs a side arm of the Griesbach. In spring, the pond is regularly flooded by high water from the Griesbach. The bottom of the pond is covered with a thick, anaerobic layer of mud.
