The Sima Moor is located in Austria near the municipality of Waidring. It consists of a transition bog and a raised bog. A transition bog is the zone between a fen and a raised bog. This transitional area is home to a large variety of species of desmidiaceae, testate amoebae and rotifers.
The Sima Moor is only used for agriculture to a limited extent. However, peat was cut in the area until around 1980. The wet meadows are mowed once a year in the autumn to maintain the biodiversity and deplete the soil from nutrients.
