The paradise meadows are a typical intermediate moor and raised bog. The area is rich in rare plants, amphibians and reptiles. Many desmidiaceae and testaceae can be found in the numerous ravines. The pH value of the water is 4.6 – 5.5. Peat was extracted after the First World War due to the lack of fuel at the time, and this continued until the 1950s. Since then, however, the depleted areas have partially recovered.
